Didn’t Expect This from an MTL Tank… Not Even Close
I’ll start with this:
I’m not an MTL guy. Never have been.
Every time I’ve tried MTL in the past, it’s been the same story — tight draw, polite vape, and flavour that feels like it’s holding back.
So when I picked up the Blaze MTL RTA 22mm, I wasn’t expecting much more than “yeah, it’s decent for MTL.”
I was wrong.
Unboxing & First Impressions
ThunderCloud doesn’t mess around when it comes to packaging.
This is one of those unboxing experiences where you can immediately tell:
someone actually cared
Everything feels premium, organised, and deliberate. Not just thrown into a box and sent on its way.
Then you get to the airflow system… and I’ll be honest:
At first glance, all those little airflow plugs look a bit intimidating.
But once you take a second to actually look at how it’s laid out, it clicks.
You’ve got:
a full row dedicated to MTL
a separate row for RDL
each one with different hole sizes to fine-tune the draw exactly how you want it
It’s not complicated — it’s just modular.
And once you understand that, it becomes one of the strongest features of the tank.
Airflow System
This is where the Blaze MTL really stands out.
Instead of giving you one fixed airflow and saying “hope you like it,” it hands you control.
Want it tight?
Go smaller insert.
Want to open it up a bit?
Swap to a bigger one.
Want to push it toward RDL territory?
That’s there too.
Swapping them out is actually pretty simple once you figure out how to remove the deck.
And that’s probably my only gripe here:
The manual could do a better job explaining that process
Because once you know how, it’s easy. But the first time, you’re figuring it out yourself.
Build Deck & Wicking
This is where I was pleasantly surprised.
Wicking this thing is ridiculously easy.
No weird tricks.
No fighting the deck.
No “cut it exactly 3.7mm or suffer” nonsense.
And one feature I really appreciated:
You don’t need to pre-cut your coil legs
You can install the coil first, position it properly, and then trim it.
That makes building:
quicker
cleaner
and far less frustrating
It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference in day-to-day use.
First Hit – The Moment Everything Changed
Now this is where things got interesting.
I took that first pull… and it genuinely caught me off guard.
The sound hit first
Not quiet. Not soft.
It was like:
tiny fireworks going off in the chamber
Alive. Crackling. Busy.
And then the flavour hit.
More fireworks
Full, immediate, and way more aggressive than I expected from an MTL tank.
And that’s when it clicked for me.

The reason I’ve never really stuck with MTL is simple:
Most of them just don’t hit hard enough
They’re fine. Clean. Respectable.
But they don’t punch.

I think this tank is great.
It incorporates the best features of all the tanks it resembles.
It’s simply a solid tank in its category; it doesn’t bring anything radically new or unusual to the table, of course, but for someone who doesn’t own any tanks yet, I think this one will meet most of their needs.
Surprisingly, the impregnation didn’t cause any problems (even though I’m terrified of those holes in the cotton pads), and it doesn’t leak at all.
The only thing is, the adjustment mechanism seems a bit questionable—it turned out to be too complicated with those screws.
It’s not even a con, more like a “what if…” kind of thing.
But it’s still cool that they included this airflow adjustment option.

The BLAZE SOLO MTL has a wide range of airflow combinations, but surprisingly, at its maximum opening, it’s more of a downdraft (DL) than a round-the-door (RDL). The build quality is impeccable, and the materials…It’s top quality and its bottom airflow control ring is very precise; you can create multiple combinations to achieve the desired flavor and hit. Personally, I find it performs best using the middle air pin and the air ring open halfway with some coils. Great work, Thundercloud!

Excellent MTL tank! The airflow mechanism is very convenient. No need to remove the coil or clean the cotton. I also really liked the included accessories. A large number of nozzles are included. Although the tank is universal and can be used in both MTL and DL, for me personally, it’s primarily an MTL tank.👍

Blaze solo MTL
The BLAZE SOLO MTL has a wide range of airflow combinations, but surprisingly, at its maximum opening, it’s more of a downdraft (DL) than a round-the-door (RDL). The build quality is impeccable, and the materials…It’s top quality and its bottom airflow control ring is very precise; you can create multiple combinations to achieve the desired flavor and hit. Personally, I find it performs best using the middle air pin and the air ring open halfway with some coils. Great work, Thundercloud!
